Newmarket Tree Removal Permits

If you’re considering removing a tree from your property, many communities, municipalities, and cities require that you first obtain a tree removal permit before you hire certified arborists to safely remove that tree. If you don’t get a permit, you could be subject to potential fines, fees, and/or compensation. The requirements and specifications differ by community, so be sure to always check with your local bylaws. That’s no different for tree removals in Newmarket. At Advanced Tree Care we’re happy to help you with the permit process. To start, we’ll explain how to get a tree removal permit in Newmarket. If you have any questions and want to schedule a tree assessment, be sure to contact us.

Tree Removal Permits in Newmarket

Newmarket’s bylaws specify that the removal of any tree with a diameter larger than 20 cm (8 inches) at 1.4m above the ground requires a tree removal permit. You can apply for the permit by completing this form and sending it to info@newmarket.ca with your Advanced Tree Care Arborist Report attached. After submission, the town will take about 30 days to review the application to confirm whether you have been approved for a tree removal permit. As part of the application and for the removal itself, Newmarket can charge various fees. These include administration fees, review fees, or compensation charges based on the number of trees removed, their size, their condition, and the reason for their removal. In some cases for construction projects, the community may also require a deposit to protect other trees on the property.

Arborist Inspection to Apply for Tree Removal Permits

In order to receive the permit, Newmarket also requires the application to include a report from an arborist certified by the ISA, like Advanced Tree Care. These reports provide the community decision makers with a professional and informed report about the tree. Newmarket also needs this report for dead, dying, or hazardous trees. The one exception is emergency trees, which do not require a permit or arborist report due to the urgent situation. You will, however, need to notify Newmarket after the tree is removed. The town will review the case, so include photos that clearly show the damage the emergency tree(s) caused prior to its removal. An arborist report will also help to verify that your emergency removal was justified.
