Richmond Hill Tree Removal Permits

If you’re considering removing a tree from your property, many communities, municipalities, and cities require that you first obtain a tree removal permit before you hire certified arborists to safely remove that tree. If you don’t get a permit, you could be subject to potential fines, fees, and/or compensation. The requirements and specifications differ by community, so be sure to always check with your local bylaws. That’s no different for tree removals in Richmond Hill. At Advanced Tree Care we’re happy to help you with the permit process. To start, we’ll explain how to get a tree removal permit in Richmond Hill. If you have any questions and want to schedule a tree assessment, be sure to contact us.

Tree Removal Permits in Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill’s bylaws specify that the removal of any tree with a diameter larger than 20 cm (8 inches) at 1.4 m above the ground requires a tree removal permit. The town also requires permits when more than 25% of a tree will be pruned or when construction will take place within a tree’s protected zone. The application for a Richmond Hill tree removal permit is available online here where you are able to attach your Advanced Tree Care Arborist Report. After submission, the city will take about 30 days to review the application and confirm whether you have been approved for a tree removal permit or by-law exemption. As part of the application and possibly for the removal itself, Richmond Hill will charge fees.

Arborist Inspection to Apply for Tree Removal Permits

In order to receive the permit, Richmond Hill also requires the application to include a report from an arborist certified by the ISA like the arborists at Advanced Tree Care. These reports provide the community with a professional and informed report about the tree. Richmond Hill also needs this report for dead, dying, or hazardous trees. The one exception are emergency trees, which will not require a permit. You will, however, need to notify Richmond Hill within 72 hours after the tree is removed and include an arborist’s report. The city will review the case, so include photos that clearly show the damage the emergency tree(s) caused prior to its removal.
