3 Reasons to Get Your Tree Stumps Ground Away
Getting a tree cut down is always the last possible course of action for a tree that\’s been too damaged to save. Once you\’ve decided to get one of your trees removed, it\’s important to also make a plan for removing the stump that\’s left behind.
Stumps can be dangerous
It\’s easy to trip over or accidentally bump a lawn mower into lifted roots even when a fully grown tree is in your yard. But these trip hazards can be nearly invisible without the tree to give you a warning. Letting the stump and roots stay in your yard can be hazardous to children, new visitors, and your lawn care company.
Stumps are the perfect home for unwanted pests
Untreated stumps start to decay and rot over time, even if they stay solid in your yard for years. Termites, ants, and beetles can burrow into the wood, especially if the protective bark layer can\’t replenish itself over time, and that makes for a convenient waypoint to your house or other plants. If you don\’t get the stump ground away, then it will need to be treated with regular pesticides.
Stumps encourage new, unwanted growth
You have probably seen small growths and the beginnings of trees pop up around your mature trees before dying away. Dropped seeds can start to take root, but the tree\’s shadow often deprives them of sunlight and the developed root systems restrict water so you don\’t have a yard choked full of trees. But once a tree is cut down, it can no longer prevent the growths from growing and taking resources away from your other plants.
