Arborist Consulting Expert Discusses The Benefits Of Trees

Trees have always had a universal appeal because of the beauty and shade they provide. It\’s no surprise that urban parks are full of trees or that apartment dwellers decorate their rooms with potted trees. However, trees benefit us in many more ways than just their beauty and shade.

Trees And Cars Easily Coexist Together

We like our cars and would find life difficult without them. It turns out that trees benefit from our use of cars. In fact, the carbon dioxide emissions from our cars are food for the trees around us. They use it to produce the cellulose that makes up their wood as well as sugar and other carbohydrates. A byproduct of this is oxygen that is released into the air which is necessary for us to breathe and for the operation of our cars. In a year\’s time, an acre of trees absorb the same amount of carbon dioxide that is put out by driving a car 26,000 miles. Trees also absorb other gas emissions from our cars such as sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide.

Well Placed Trees Can Reduce Our Energy Bills

Deciduous trees on the south side of our homes provide shade in the summer which reduces our air conditioning requirements. In addition to the shade, water evaporation from their leaves cools the surrounding air. In the winter when they are bare of leaves, they allow in sunlight which adds warmth to our homes and reduces heating bills.

Trees Reduce Noise

Trees act as a buffer against noise. Evergreen trees with thick foliage are effective at reducing the noise of cars and neighborhood lawn equipment. Noise can be reduced by as much as 40 percent by a single well placed tree.

Trees Improve Property Values

Well placed and healthy trees increase the curb appeal of your home. They increase the chances of selling your home quickly should you choose to sell it. Mature trees in particular, have a moderate to strong impact on curb appeal. Trees in well landscaped neighborhoods can increase property values by as much as 20 percent.
