Arborist Consulting Is Essential – Trees Can\’t Take Care Of Themselves

For some reason, trees often get far less attention and care than is given to the plants in our gardens. Perhaps it\’s because our garden plants seem so much more vulnerable than the big, sturdy, and seemingly hardy trees on our property. This is often an illusion as those who have suffered damage from falling trees and branches can attest.

Trees get neglected for a variety of reasons including some incorrect beliefs that are discussed below. If your trees aren\’t maintained and have never been checked by a professional, arborist consulting would be worth the investment.

The Trees On My Property Can Take Care Of Themselves Because Trees In The Wild Do Just Fine

While it\’s certainly true that some trees living in forests are very healthy, there are many that are not. If you look at the health of trees in the forest with a careful eye, you will see damaged and diseased trees. Some will have weak root systems because chance placed them in a poor location. Others suffer damage from natural causes such as lightning strikes.

If you frequently hike in the woods, then you will have noticed recent tree and large branch blow downs due to wind storms. Many of the old fallen trees on the forest floor are there due to damage and weakness. The trees left standing in the woods are the result of survival of the fittest.

The trees on your property have similar problems to contend with as those in the wild. They also have additional problems because their urban environment. If you don\’t want your yard to look like the forest floor, your trees must be cared for.

Big Trees Have Strong And Deep Roots So They Can\’t Get Blown Down

Big trees seem strong when you push against the trunk with your hands. But humans are quite weak compared to the forces of nature. A big tree has a lot of branches and leaves. This presents a lot of surface area for strong winds to push against. The depth of a tree\’s root system depends on a number of factors such as the soil conditions, the tree species, and the presence of subterranean barriers.

The roots of many trees don\’t extend much further than a few feet if even that. Since you can\’t see the root system, you can\’t tell at a glance whether your tree will survive the next wind storm. The extent of your tree\’s root system could be quite small relative to its above ground size.

Dead Tree Branches Will Fall When They Are Ready

This is positively true. What isn\’t correct is assuming that they aren\’t worth the bother. If they fall at the wrong time when someone is standing underneath or when a car is parked beneath it, then serious injury or property damage can result.
