Aurora Tree Removal Permits
If you’re considering removing a tree from your property, many communities, municipalities, and cities require that you first obtain a tree removal permit before you hire certified arborists to safely remove that tree. If you don’t get a permit, you could be subject to potential fines, fees, and/or compensation. The requirements and specifications differ by community, so be sure to always check with your local bylaws. That’s no different for tree removals in Aurora. At Advanced Tree Care we’re happy to help you with the permit process. To start, we’ll explain how to get a tree removal permit in Aurora. If you have any questions and want to schedule a tree assessment, be sure to contact us.
Tree Removal Permits in Aurora
Not every tree removal in Aurora requires a permit. The community’s bylaws specify that for every .25 hectares (.6 acre) of property, two trees can be removed within a 12-month period without a permit. This means that a property that is 1 hectare in size can remove 8 trees annually without needing to request a permit. This specifically applies to trees with a trunk diameter over 20 cm (8 inches) and under 70 cm (27.5 inches). Trees under that size do not require a permit ever, while those with a trunk larger than 70 cm in diameter always require a permit for removal in Aurora. If you are removing more trees than allowed for your property, the application is fully online and can be accessed here where you can also attach your Advanced Tree Care Arborist Report supporting document. The application includes a fee, and for healthy trees, the community will also charge a fee for the tree’s removal. After submission, the town will take about 30 days to review the application and confirm whether you have been approved for a tree removal permit.
Arborist Inspection to Apply for Tree Removal Permits
In order to receive the permit, Aurora requires the application to include a confirmation from an arborist certified by the ISA like the arborists at Advanced Tree Care. They may also require an arborist’s report. While this is typically only required for hazard trees, the Director may also request this report for a healthy tree’s removal. These reports provide the community with a professional and informed report about the tree. The one exception is emergency trees, which do not require a permit or arborist report because of the urgent situation. You will, however, need to notify Aurora within 72 hours after the tree is removed. The town will review the case, so include photos that clearly show the damage the emergency tree(s) caused prior to its removal. An arborist report will also help to verify that your emergency removal was justified.
