Increasing Newmarket\’s Beauty
The York region, and Newmarket in particular, grew up on top of glacial deposits. Sand and gravel built up over the years, and the city now rests on these materials that are essentially leftovers from the glaciers grinding against each other. Newmarket was once also home to a wide range of native trees. These trees either died out, or were overrun by European varieties, as immigrants settled the area. Over the last few years, there has been increased emphasis on tree care in Newmarket. As the government has made a concerted effort to reintroduce native tree varieties in multiple parts of Ontario.
Some of these trees include the Red Oak, the Silver Maple, the White Pine, the Trembling Aspen, and the Ironwood. If you own land, or are planning to plant trees on the grounds around your home, consider a tree management plan that includes one or more of the trees that have become scarce in the Toronto region. By including them in the plans for your grounds, you can help restore and maintain a portion of what makes Newmarket, and the surrounding area, so beautiful.
