Long Term Planning and Estate Management: Tree Care
If your family has an estate or family home that has been passed down for generations, it\’s likely that you understand the value of maintaining this property correctly. Chances are that your parents, and possibly your grandparents, either looked after the property themselves or paid professionals to do so. Unfortunately, time marches on, and as it does, professional contacts tend to lose touch. Business cards get lost, groundskeepers retire. And it can become more difficult to care for a family estate from a distance. You may hear over the phone from your elderly father in a care home; \”That old tree in the backyard at the old house is getting rickety.\” But that\’s not really a clear picture of what this means, or how urgent the issue is.
When you find yourself in this position; it\’s important to note that it\’s still crucially important to care for the trees that have been on your family\’s property for generations. Aging trees can become quite fragile. As their branches extend their reach, storm and wind damage can batter and bruise them. Making them far more delicate than they were when they were younger. A falling tree branch can cause quite a bit of damage to structures or vehicles. And is quite dangerous during windy or stormy months.
Planning Ahead is Key
For this reason, as you put long term care arrangements into place take the time to find a skilled arborist near your family\’s property. One who can advise you about the trees on the property and how they should be cared for. If possible, walk the property with the professional so that you can see the state of each tree. If not, ask that they send you pictures. Then you can help assess the situation from a distance and see each tree clearly, along with any damaged or dead branches.
