Professional tree care can strengthen your cold hardy fruit trees

Professional tree care can strengthen your cold hardy fruit trees

When considering the resale value of a property, curb appeal is one of the primary considerations…and nothing contributes as much to curb appeal as trees do.  While a wide variety of trees can enhance the value of a property. Fruit trees may be some of the most effective ones for 3 reasons: Their landscaping value, their beauty, and, of course, the fruit they provide.

Fruit trees come in three different sizes

Large (or standard), medium and dwarf.  The advantage of this is that they thereby can fulfill many different landscaping purposes. Whether one large fruit tree is set off by itself, for dramatic effect, or several dwarf trees are used as a windbreak or even a hedge.  Because of these varieties of size, their uses are multiple.

Fruit trees also provide a unique focal point in a yard

Very few plants surpass the beauty of a blooming fruit tree during the spring season. And very few plants are quite as eye catching.

Fruit trees also, of course, provide a useful and money saving product, in the form of their fruit

Gardeners can be assured of the safety of their product by choosing which growing methods they prefer; and can save a great deal of money by replacing grocery store products with the harvest from their own backyards.  Excess fruit can also, of course, be sold.

Many different fruit trees are suitable for Ontario, due to their ability to tolerate cold weather.  The strongest ones are apples and pears (which can tolerate an air temperature in winter of -30 degrees) and sweet cherries, plums and peaches (which can tolerate an air temperature to -25 degrees).

Professional tree care can assist in the cultivation and successful propagation of your fruit trees to ensure optimal results. Young fruit trees require the right amount of mulching (especially during their first few years), appropriate fertilization (depending on the age of the tree and the amount of mulch used) and proper pruning, especially during the first couple of years of their lives.  Proper pruning will enable the trees to not only be healthier but to produce more fruit.  Your arborist can advise you on all of these matters to protect your investment. Whether your ultimate goal is resale value or preserving an attractive property for future generations.
