Crane arm removing dead tree at the end of summer

The Benefits of End of Summer Tree Removal

The end of summer is the perfect time for tree removal. We understand removing a tree can be hard. That one oak or maple has been a part of your yard for years, even decades. We consider tree removal a last step. Our certified arborists will work diligently to save a tree before resorting to more ultimate options. Unfortunately, every tree has its day. We’ll explain why the end of the summer is a great time to remove that sick, dead, or hazardous tree.

The End of Summer is Perfect for Tree Removal

There are general benefits of tree removal such as improving the aesthetic of your yard. There are also multiple benefits for removing a dead or hazard tree at the end of the summer:

Prevent Pests and Diseases

Fall and winter are seasons where healthy trees begin to tire down and rest until the next energizing Spring. For unhealthy, dying, and dead trees, this becomes a period that exposes them to more pests, disease, and rot. Over time, these will only damage the tree more, turning it into a potential hazard that can damage your property. Removing such a tree will also help your other trees in your yard. Diseases and pests can spread to these other trees which are more vulnerable as they go dormant.

Preventing Serious Hazards or Damage

Minus a few thunderstorms, summer weather in Ontario tends to be mild. A dying or dead tree isn’t put to the test during this season. However, weather in the fall and winter is usually more inclement and harder for these weaker trees to handle. Harsher winds and the weight of snow or freezing rain will cause large branches or even an entire tree to fall. It’s much better to remove a tree at the end of the summer before this happens. For the same reason it can be more difficult to remove a tree in the winter and fall. Summer weather provides optimal conditions for tree removal.

Another benefit of late summer removal is that most perennial plants will have ended their flowering stage at this point in the year. Removing a large tree in or near a garden can cause some unintentional damage to the nearby plants. With the flowering phase over, any accidental damage will be much less tragic for those peonies.

Making Room for the New Generation

The end of summer and early fall is a great time to plant new trees. If you remove a tree at this time, you will create the room to provide a new tree its home during the optimal period.

Don’t Wait to Remove Hazard Trees

Some dead or dying trees don’t need to be immediately removed if they are far enough from your home or other buildings. They should still be removed before the fall and winter. However, if a tree is presenting an immediate risk to any nearby structures, powerlines, or other trees, it should be removed immediately. Don’t wait for the end of the summer since the hazard tree could cause severe damage or serious injury in the meantime. If you need to determine whether a tree needs to be removed or could prove a potential hazard, be sure to contact us for an assessment.

The End of Season and a Tree Go Hand in Hand
