Tree Pruning Services for Newmarket, Aurora and Richmond Hill
The thought of tree pruning for the first time seems like a daunting challenge. Make the wrong cut and you may just end up harming your leafy friend, causing their limbs to rot or their trunk to tear. However if you just follow these simple tips your tree should come out cleaner and happier looking than before.
First off there are a few things you should know not to do.
1. Do not cut the branch off flush to the trunk. This removes the branch\’s stem collar which holds specialized cells the tree uses to heal itself. Much like the blood cells that clot and repair the skin in our own bodies.
2. Do not prune more than 15 to 20 percent of a tree at a time. If you remove any more of the tree it will not have the resources to synthesize enough energy to support itself.
3. Do not cut off the greater of the tree\’s crown or the leafy branches on the top half of the tree. This will cause your tree to look deformed and weaken its branches.
Keeping these three important things in mind you\’re finally ready to find out how to prune your first branch.
1. First cut a small wedge shape out of the bottom of the branch a couple of inches away from the branches stem collar. This will prevent a tear from forming in the stem tissue while you cut.
2. Next cut all the way through the branch, a couple of inches away from the wedge you cut earlier. This should leave you with a small stub.
3. Finally saw off the stub as closely to the stem collar as you can without removing it from the tree. If you would like a picture example of this you can refer to this link here.
