Vaughan Tree Removal Permits
If you’re considering removing a tree from your property, many communities, municipalities, and cities require that you first obtain a tree removal permit before you hire certified arborists to safely remove that tree. If you don’t get a permit, you could be subject to potential fines, fees, and/or compensation. The requirements and specifications differ by community, so be sure to always check with your local bylaws. That’s no different for tree removals in Vaughan. At Advanced Tree Care we’re happy to help you with the permit process. To start, we’ll explain how to get a tree removal permit in Vaughan. If you have any questions and want to schedule a tree assessment, be sure to contact us.
Tree Removal Permits in Vaughan
Vaughan’s bylaws specify that the removal of any tree with a diameter larger than 20 cm (8 inches) at 1.4 m above the ground requires a tree removal permit. Vaughan has separate applications for different kinds of tree removal. The application for a residential Vaughan tree removal permit is available here. If the tree is dead, a hazard, or infected with Emerald Ash Borer, fill this application. If the tree’s removal is for construction or infill, this specific form is required. All applications should be sent to treepermits@vaughan.ca or mailed to Parks, Forestry and Horticulture Operations, Joint Operations Centre located at 2800 Rutherford Road, Vaughan ON L4K 2N9. After submission, the city will take about 30 days to review the application and confirm whether you have been approved for a tree removal permit. As part of the application and possibly for the removal itself, Vaughan will charge fees.
Arborist Inspection to Apply for Tree Removal Permits
In order to receive the permit, Vaughan also requires the application to include a report from an arborist certified by the ISA like the arborists at Advanced Tree Care. These reports provide the community with a professional and informed report about the tree. Vaughan also needs this report for dead, dying, or hazardous trees. The one exception is emergency trees, which will not require a permit. You should, however, notify Vaughan within 72 hours after the tree is removed. The city will review the case, so include photos that clearly show the damage the emergency tree(s) caused prior to its removal. An arborist report will also help to verify that your emergency removal was justified.
