York Region Arborists May Help Properties Boast Beautiful Fall Foliage
Carotenoids, chlorophyll and anthocyanin undoubtedly play a major role in what Canada’s trees will look like come autumn but that’s not all. Our York Region arborists know that the weather and soil content influence the trees’ leaves too. So there are a few things they can do to help improve fall foliage. Would you like to find out what they are?
To begin with, York Region arborists may improve a tree’s autumn canopy by taking excellent care of it during the spring and summer months. They are traditionally important parts of a tree’s growing season. So the soil should be kept moist, nutrient rich and warm. Also, the tree should be kept disease and pest-free. That way, the leaves will be healthy come fall.
Now there is not much that York Region arborists can do about the weather, which as we noted earlier, has significant influence on foliage color too. However, they may use structural reinforcement and other means to shield the tree from weather-related damage. For example, mulch and burlap may keep the trees safe during periods of frost whereas cabling could keep foliage-laden branches from snapping off during wind storms in September.
Which Ones?
Finally, York Region arborists may help improve fall color by helping property owners select beautiful trees. There are a number of specimens that are known for producing amazing color year after year. And the same goes for shrubs. “Which ones?”, you may ask. How about red oak, sugar maples, sumac, red maples and paper birch? They are fantastic. The list of other species of note includes, but isn’t confined to:
- Katsura Trees
- Redbud Trees
- Smokebushes
- Dogwood Trees
- Witch Hazel Shrubs
